A Little History
Paneer kebabs are a popular North Indian appetizer that reflects the region's rich tradition of grilling and tandoor cooking, which dates back to the Mughal era. While kebabs originally featured spiced meats cooked over open flames, vegetarians adapted the recipe by using paneer, a fresh cheese common in Indian cuisine, as the star ingredient. Today, paneer kebabs are enjoyed across India and beyond, celebrated for their vibrant flavours, versatility, and appeal to both vegetarians and non-vegetarians alike.
"These paneer kebabs are a true crowd-pleaser—bursting with bold flavours and a melt-in-your-mouth texture, they’re sure to win over everyone at the table!"

Frequently Asked Questions for Paneer Kebabs
Can I make paneer kebabs without a grill?
Yes! You can cook them on a stove top using a nonstick pan or bake them in the oven at 200°C (400°F) for about 15–20 minutes, turning halfway through.
Can I use store-bought paneer for this recipe?
Absolutely. Store-bought paneer works well, but for best results, use fresh paneer or soak it in warm water for 10 minutes to soften before marinating.
How long should I marinate the paneer?
Marinate for at least 30 minutes for good flavour, but if you have time, marinating for 2–3 hours enhances the taste even more.
What can I serve with paneer kebabs?
Serve them with mint chutney, lemon wedges, and a side salad. They also pair well with naan or as a filling in wraps.
Can I prepare paneer kebabs ahead of time?
Yes! You can marinate and skewer the ingredients a day in advance. Just grill or cook them fresh when ready to serve.
Can I barbecue paneer kebabs?
Yes, you can absolutely BBQ paneer kebabs! Grilling them over a barbecue adds a wonderful smoky flavour and beautiful char marks. Just be sure to soak wooden skewers in water for 30 minutes beforehand to prevent burning, and brush the kebabs lightly with oil to keep the paneer and veggies moist while grilling. Cook over medium heat, turning occasionally, until the paneer is golden and slightly crisp on the edges.
